SOE 2017 – Recap

Council of Asian Pacific Americans proudly delivered an extraordinary “Splendor of the East 2017”

On Saturday, May 13, 2017, the Council of Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA) has successfully hosted its popular annual signature event, the “Splendor of the East 2017” (SOE 2017) at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center at 15801 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, MI 48126. On behalf of the Council of Asian Pacific Americans, we would like to thank you for attending and this is the 16th year that CAPA fulfilled its mission, to unite all Asian Pacific Americans through culture, education and community service.

In celebration of Asian American Heritage Month and in honor of Mother’s Day, it was an evening filled with a delectable 12-course meal, beautiful traditional attire and costumes as well as amazing theatrical performances from around the world! We had over 400 dinner guests, close to one hound dedicated young volunteers, over 200 performances and 1,000 audiences enjoyed the amazing show.

The 2017 SOE Show production is a new collaboration between professional creative teams and community cultural groups. CAPA has joined together with visiting group Formosa Circus Art (from Taiwan), ArtLabJ (Metro Detroit), and our 13 selected community cultural groups (including China, India, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Polynesia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam) to illuminate the beauty of Asian heritage. With such a strong pool of talent performing, this year’s SOE show promises to be an unforgettable experience.

The success of an event of this magnitude depends on many volunteers and all the participants. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the CAPA Board members, Advisory Boards, SOE committees, production staff, program participants, media, partner organizations, VIP guests, families and friends who have helped make the 2017 SOE another spectacular event.

SOE 2017 Joined Detroit Dance City Festival

Council of Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA) Splendor of the East 2017 was invited to participate in the Detroit Dance City Festival (DDCF) at Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) on August 20th. The DDCF is a three-day (August 18-20) community building event held by ArtLab J that celebrate dance in its various forms and disciplines. This includes workshops, kids dance camp, networking opportunities, and performances featuring artists from five countries and ten states, totaling over 500 local, national and international artists throughout the weekend. As part of the DDCF SUMMER STAGE program, CAPA SOE production team brought the full house audience the Asian Festival Calendar 2017. CAPA really appreciates friends who showed such support and brought the wonderful audience for our show!

Summer is a very busy time for most of our friends but the 65 performers from various communities (including China, India, Japan, Korea, Polynesia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam) made the day! The performance was a smashing success and CAPA received many great compliments about the performance. The good words were for the entire production team! Everyone contributed, and we succeeded! Big thanks to everyone!
