The Education Committee under the auspices of Chair Chunchun Tang and Co-Chair Sarvesh Seshadri concluded the selection of the 2016 scholarship applicants on April 23rd, 2016.
The applicants represented a diverse group of students from different high schools. They were required to submit their bio sketches, scholastic achievements, community service and respond to specific topics through narrative essays.
Significant factors in the selection process besides academic achievement included requiring the applicants to choose an in-state college or university and rendering community service through CAPA’s signature events.
The lucky awardees are Alexander Liu and Kathie Lee from Troy High School, and Shyam Sudheendra from Stoney Creek High School for winning the scholar’s award! They received their awards at SOE 2016 VIP Reception at the Ford Theater for the Performing Arts in Dearborn, Michigan on May 14, 2016.
Kathie Lee, an upcoming student at MSU, says, “SOE was an incredible event and being immersed in my Asian American heritage has made me proud of who I am. I hope to be able to express my heritage at Michigan State!”
CAPA congratulates these fine young students and wishes them success in their future.
