Council of Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA) presented on May 15, 2015 the Scholars Award to three young students. They are Vincent Thieu of Troy High School, Anchita Sanam of Novi High School and Nina Cedro of the International Academy in Bloomfield Hills.
CAPA handed the monetary grants during the VIP reception of the SOE-2015 at the Ford Community and Performing Arts in Dearborn, Michigan. CAPA President Aneesa Rashid and the education committee members handed over the awards.
The education committee headed by Interim Chair Sarvesh Seshadri and committee members Arcie Gemino and Billie Belen concluded the selection of applicants for the 2015 scholarship awards at the Bloomfield township library on April 7, 2015.
The applicants represented a diverse group of students from different high schools. They were required to submit their bio, scholastic achievements and records of community service. They were asked to respond to topics through narrative essays. They were interviewed and made to take an interactive project requiring skills in planning and execution and show of their leadership capabilities.
Significant factors in the selection process besides academic achievement included requiring the applicants to choose an in-state college or university and rendering community service through CAPA’s signature events.
