Arcie Gemino

Arcie has a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a degree in Bachelor of Science in Education. She has a Masters of Arts in Teaching and a Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision. She also earned a Specialist’s Degree in Reading. She was an educator for 35 years teaching English, Language Arts, Reading and Journalism. On top of teaching academics, she was also actively involved in various committees in and outside of her district, chairing some of them including the curriculum, reading improvement, textbook selection and test-taking strategies. She had coordinated several co-curricular activities such as the Student Council, Spelling Bee, School Newspaper and Dramatics Club. The highlight of her professional career was her two time selection in Who’s Who Among Teachers in the United States, and her two- time selection as the Outstanding Teacher in the Clintondale Community School District which led to her competitive role in the WDIV Teacher of the Year Competition and ultimately landing her the opportunity to be a finalist in the Michigan Teacher of the Year competitions.

Arcie’s involvement in community work spans more than 25 years. She had been president of some organizations in the Filipino community of Michigan, the highlight of which was her four year presidency of the Filipino American Council, FILAMCCO, the umbrella organization overseeing more than 50 professional and social member organizations in the Filipino community. She’s the immediate past president of Kiwanis, Club of Metropolitan Detroit, past Vice-President of the FILAMCCO Foundation, Past President of Michigan Circulo Pampangueno of Mi, current board member of the Philippine American Community Center of Michigan, the Philippine American Foundation and the Filipino American Political Association of Michigan. She networks with other Asian leaders and organizations serving as board member of the Council of Asian Pacific Americans CAPA working with the Education Committee, the American Citizens for Justice, ACJ, chaired the 2009 Asian American Immersion sponsored by New Detroit, member of the APIA Vote-MI. and has collaborated with numerous humanitarian, civic, and cultural projects and programs with the various ethnic communities.
