Sumaiya Islam

I’m interested in becoming the Council of Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA) Communication and Marketing Co-Chair because I’m passionate about uplifting and connecting the Asian Pacific American community. Being a previous CAPA Scholars recipient in 2023 was such an inspiring and meaningful experience for me – it introduced me to an amazing network of leaders, role models, and peers who share a passion for celebrating culture and making a positive impact.

Since then, I’ve continued to stay interested in being involved with CAPA because I want to give back to the organization that supported me and help create the same welcoming environment for others. I’m especially drawn to the Communications and Marketing role because I enjoy being creative and using social media, design, and outreach to engage with others and promote meaningful events. I believe storytelling, representation, and connections are so important in building community, and would love to contribute my skills and ideas to help CAPA grow its presence and reach even more people.
