Every year, the Education Committee holds an APA Youth Leadership workshop. Content of the workshop varies, although the theme usually revolves around leadership development.
This year, the theme was “Moving on Up! Asian Pacific American Leadership and Career Advancement” and was held at the International Academy in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in May 2013.
Students were invited to attend an activities-based workshop that focused on developing youth leadership skills, with special attention paid to the application of these skills in the Asian Pacific American (APA) community. The goals of the workshop were to enable students to: use new approaches to leadership that build collaboration, teamwork, and trust; describe ways in which their own personal strengths and skills can help them be better leaders; and express a basic understanding about APA-specific leadership advantages and barriers in society, and the ways in which these barriers can be overcome.
